SINGAPORE : Thousands throng the Marina Bay on Thursday to celebrate Singapore's 42nd birthday on a floating platform.
This is the first time the National Day Parade is held at this brand new venue.
It was previously held either at the National Stadium or the Padang.
Aside from the new location, this year's parade also boasts many firsts.
The flypast by F-16 jets is a traditional crowd-pleaser.
Also impressing the audience - commandos rappelling down the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and the 21-gun salute in full view of the spectators.
The city skyline also provides a breath-taking backdrop for the flying of the Singapore flag.
The arrival of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is an annual tradition but year after year, spectators make it a point to give the nation's leader a warm and loud welcome.
Mr Lee is celebrating his third year as Prime Minister.
With the limited parade space at the Bay, the parade contingent is smaller this time.
Another first - President SR Nathan inspects the entire parade on a new ceremonial vehicle.
Previously, the President would only inspect the Guard-of-Honour contingent on foot.
Yet another rare sight - armed soldiers and men from the Special Operations Command getting up close and personal with the spectators in the gallery.
It is a simulation of one of their exercises, showcasing their advanced weaponry, agility and might.
And this year, the Navy also made its presence felt.
For once, it was able to use the body of water around the stage to make waves and show off its capability.
With a stunning skyline and new elements to involve spectators, Singaporeans can certainly expect even more thrills at National Day celebrations in the future.
As the kaleidoscope of colours fades into the night, it is time for the biggest bang of all to cap a memorable evening.
Popping fireworks fill the air with trailing colours of the rainbow - all against the backdrop of the city skyline.
As always, the evening of every August 9th ends on a high note.
And as the curtains close on a show-stopping performance, the memories of a very special Marina Bay National Day Parade will linger forever.
